El aeropuerto de Ho Chi Min esta en la misma ciudad, no a xx kilómetros. Si únicamente vais a pasar la noche, busca un hotel cerca, aunque seguramente seran más caros que en el centro. A las 10 de la noche en el centro hay gente (bueno la hay siempre), pero es como España a las 12. En estos paises la actividad diaria se rige por la luz solar, a las 6 de la mañana ya hay actividad y en cuanto se pone el sol, ya se recoge la gente, pero siempre hay gente en la calle.
Si miras en Google Earth te haras mejor idea de la situación del aeropuerto.

Depends on where do you drop in HCMc.
If you drop at the center, like Ben Thanh market or along Tran Hung Dao street (Bui Vien, Pham Ngu Lao area), you can usually take bus no. 152 from the airport, pay 5000 VND for yourself and 5000 VND for each big luggage.
For taxi, Vinasun and Mai Linh are two taxi companies which are famous in precise of rate.
Although they are more expensive than other taxi companies but they get you exact amount.
Last time I went with a French guy from airport to Thao Dien district 2.
It cost 240,000 VND for distance of 13 kms or more.
