I made the Inca Road the last julio…y thanks to the good information that I found in this forum the trip I am better of that than he/she waited, for that reason when returning I want to share with you some details that I have done a lot of confused people with this roll of the Inca road in Cuzco Peru: Here he goes them my details:

Location: The Inca Road begins to 82 kilometers of the city of the Cusco in route to Machu Picchu and the itinerary is of 42 kilometers.

Climate: The climate is varied along the road. During the day it is usually sunny, dry in the first two days and humid in third fifteen. In the night, the first two camps are usually cold, but the third camp is tempered. The rainy season begins at the end of November and it lasts until March. Although this adds a bigger difficulty to the walk, it is also certain that the landscapes are benefitted by the rains.

Landscapes: The scenarios and landscapes also change along the walk. In the first two days the landscape is of the Andean type with sharp, snowy presence of mountains, forests and creeks. On the other hand, in the third day the vegetation is more tropical resembling each other more to a tropical forest. Along the road it is possible to see flames, picaflores, hawks, small lizards and in some occasions deer.

1er Day: Km. 82 - camp Wayllabamba

The day it begins very early, in general the groups pick up the passengers AM between 6:30 and 7 of their hotels. After a journey of 3 hours in bus and a stop of 1 hour in the town of Urubamba to buy provisions, the bus arrives to the Kilometer 82 of the route to Machu Picchu. There all the tourists have to register in the control to be able to begin the walk. Starting from there, only 42 kilometers of mountains, Andean valleys, rivers and tropical forests separate you of Machu Picchu.

The first tract from the beginning until the camp of Miskay, where it is usually eaten lunch, it delays so single 1 hour and it is in their majority plane with slight ascents. After lunch you continues with a descent to a canyon and their later ascent. Once outside of the canyon and in the summit of a hill you can sight the ruins of the citadel of Llactapata. The road continues with a descent to enter to the valley of the river Kusichaca, of there the road follows a slight ascent until the camp of Wayllabamba, to where you arrives after some 2 at 3 hours of walk from the lunch. The camp is to a height 3,000 meters and you/he/she is usually cold at night. After the dinner and before going to the bed, or he/she should say bag of sleeping, take advantage to observe the stars. In clear nights it is possible to see the Milky Way, some constellations, as well as the belt of Orión, and if you are lucky, some fleeting star.

2do day: Camp Wayllambaba - Camp Paqaymayo

The carriers wake up the passengers AM at 6 o'clock so that they can pack their things and to take breakfast. The second day it is considered by many the most difficult because it is necessary to carry out an ascent 1,200 meters until the highest point in the whole road, the step of Warmiwañusca or "I pass of the dead woman" to 4,200 meters high. This ascent usually delays between 4 and 5 hours. Once in the step, it is recommended to rest there, however shelter you very since you/he/she is usually very cold. If they hire a carrier to take their backpacks, don't forget to catch a thick coat and long pants for the step.

Overcome the step, you continues with a descent until the camp. The descent delays some 2 hours; however, some groups usually prepare on the way the lunch to half he/she stops this way to rest a little, other they serve it in the same camp of Paqaymayo where one also spends the night. This way, one almost has the whole afternoon to rest.

Warning: It is possible to have the services of carriers to load the backpacks until the step or the same camp. I recommend to make this if they don't feel prepared to fight with the height and the long walk, more important it is to enjoy her that to suffer in her. Coordinate it with their guide and pay to the carrier directly. The price is usually 10 US dollars or 35 suns (Peruvian currency).

3er day: Camp Paqaymayo - Camp Wiñaywayna

The third day is the most interesting, besides being also the longest. You begins with an ascent of an hour and a half to the step of Runkurakay to a height 3,950 meters. In the road he/she visits one another an old position of Inca control, as well as a lagoon where is possible to see in some occasions deer drinking water of them.

Once overcome the step, the rest of the road is below hill in its majority. In the road they visit one another other four ruins, the first one is Sayacmarca that was in the time of the Inca a position of control of the roads that you/they led to Machu Picchu. After visiting this ruins, you continues until Phuyupatamarca where usually eat lunch the groups before visiting the ruins of the same name. Of there the descent is quite sheer besides having tired to be in its majority steps. Finally, you arrives to the ruins of Intipata, a complex of terraces and built platforms amid the hillside of a mountain covered with thick vegetation. The road takes finally to the camp of Wiñaywayna where he can buy a deserved cold beer besides being camped and to take a shower. Once installed, they can visit the ruins of Wiñaywayna, similar to Intipata but even more impressive.

4to day: Camp Wiñaywayna - Machu Picchu

The day it begins more early of the normal thing, since at 5:30 o'clock the groups begin the walk AM bound for Machu Picchu. It is important to take a since lantern it is still dark at that hour and the road is narrow. After an hour and a half of walk you arrives to Inti Punku or "door of the sun", from where it is possible to see the majestic Inca citadel of Machu for the first time Picchu. From there it is so single half hour more to arrive to the ruins.

What is it needed to bring to the Inca Road?

To begin, it is obligatory to make it with a tour or to hire a professional guide for the Inca Road. The guided tour includes the carps, the matras or mattresses, as well as the food, the only thing that you should take is a backpack with clothes and personal articles, as well as a bag of sleeping and a lantern. It is important to take a plastic poncho or coat for rain for the months of November to March.

As for the water, it is possible to buy bottles of water during the first two days, but for the third day it is necessary to purify water, so it is recommended to take pills purificadoras or drops of iodine for the water.

As for clothes, it is recommended mountain boots, long pants, T-shirt, coats for the cold, as well as gloves and cap for the night. Finally, it is recommended to take solar, as well as repellent protector of insects, overalls in the months of rain (November to March).

Services:

The camps are outdoors in carps and not in housings, but all have hygienic services. Only in the last camp there is skillful with hot water. As for security, there are control positions in the camps with prepared personnel to assist cases of accidents and medical emergencies.

And good this description gave it to me people of the agency with which I took this wonderful trip and it was me very useful and clear, for that reason he wanted to share them with all you, Ah! And the prices were also very good compared with others that were much higher, they counted me that in these months the low season and therefore the rates also, the email for the contact with the agency is cusco_mountain@hotmail.com.

Ah and if, don't forget that to make the road the more before they make the best reservation, it doesn't care when you go, but he ALREADY makes the reservation!!!!!!!!!! that then the prices go up you very high to look for reservation the last day.

Luck and good trip!!!!!.
