Bilqis Throne-Marib-Yemen

Text: Al-Amadi, Bilqis Throne or Bar’an Temple is a Sabaean Temple devoted to the Almaqah, the Moon God.The temple was supposedly built in the 10th Century BC at the time of Balqis, the Queen of Sheba.It had six columns 12 m in length (now there are only five columns, the sixth being broken).

Text: Sanaa is one of the ancient Yemen cities dating back to the Sabean dynasty. It was the capital of the Himyrate dynasty at the onset of the 6th century AD, later the capital of the Abyssinian and Persians rulers. It was an important station on the trade route known the Route of the Elephant Owners from Aden to Sanaa.

Text: Some of the 14.000 houses of Sana’a known as “tower houses” reach eight stories. The ground and first floors are built of stone with the upper floors being built of cooked bricks. The rooms are decorated with marble arched stained-glass windows. The exterior walls are decorated with ornaments coated with lime.

Text: The ground floor of a tower house is used for storage and housing domestic animals. The first floor stores household items and the second floor usually contains a reception room for guests. Bedrooms and the kitchen are located on the top two or three floors. The top floor contains a large room called Mafraj where the owner meets his friends.
