Tourism New Zealand has kicked-off 2014 with its sights set firmly on continuing the upward trend of visitor arrivals from existing core markets - as well as the newly identified 'emerging markets' of India, Indonesia and Latin America. Our focus on growing arrivals was clearly supported by Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines announcement last week of their intention to form an alliance, which will result in a 30 per cent increase in existing seat capacity between New Zealand and Singapore. Until now there has been a lack of onward capacity on this route which has affected our ability to grow visitors through Singapore and the wider South and South East Asia market. The announcement is a real boost for our new investments in emerging markets like India and Indonesia, and we will be working closely with both airlines and travel trade to maximise the opportunity the new capacity presents. 2014 is sure to be another busy year for us all, and I look forward to working with you to continue to build on the momentum we saw in 2013.
