El 2 de julio de 2018, el sitio mexicano “Valle de Tehuacán-Cuicatlán: Hábitat Originario de Mesoamérica” fue declarado Patrimonio Mundial por la UNESCO, en la categoría de Bien Mixto. El lugar está relacionado con los orígenes de la humanidad en las Américas, el cual evidencia la adaptación del hombre al medio ambiente a lo largo de 14 mil años.

El Bien Mixto se encuentra en el centro-sur de México, entre los estados de Oaxaca y Puebla; cuenta con una superficie de 145,255.20 hectáreas, y una zona de amortiguamiento de 344,931.68 hectáreas, dentro del Área Natural Protegida de carácter Federal Reserva de la Biosfera Tehuacán-Cuicatlán.
