El Parque Nacional Daintree (Tierra Aborigen de la Península del Cabo York) (CYPAL) se compone de
dos secciones: Mossman Gorge y Cape Tribulation.
Las aguas cristalinas del río Mossman caen en cascada sobre rocas de granito en Mossman Gorge, mientras que Cape Tribulation presenta montañas cubiertas de selva tropical que descienden hasta largas playas de arena.
La parte más accesible desde Port Douglas por ejp comprende desde Mossman hasta el río Daintree.

From the Daintree River ferry crossing to Cape Tribulation, conventional two-wheel-drive vehicle access is possible, although high clearance is useful and caravans are not recommended. The road through this section of the park is narrow and winding. Drivers should keep left and watch for wildlife, particularly cassowaries.
Para llegar a Cape tribulation se necesita tomar un ferry
Desde ahí y una vez cruzado el río, se tardan unos 40 minutos en llegar a Cape Tribulation.
No hace falta un 4x4 pero un coche alto viene bien!

Hola, a ver si alguien me puede guiar un poco, que estoy algo confundida.
Voy a viajar a Australia y hasta el momento lo único fijo que tengo es Sidney (unos 4 días), y Cairns (3 o 4). Mi idea es hacer un día un tour a la Barrea de Coral (sólo uno porque si no sube mucho de precio). En principi, a esto agrego Townsville para ir a Magnetic Island.
Mis dudas son las siguientes:
-Quisiera ver un poco del bosque en esa zona. Qué me recomiendan? Estaba pensando visitar Daintree, pero no sé si se puede llegar desde Cairns en transporte público. No alquilaré auto y quiero evitar lo más que pueda las excursiones contratadas, pero no sé si se puede visitar Daintree sin un tour.
-Quiero ver koalas y canguros, ojalá en su hábitat natural. Hay algún lugar donde pueda verlos cerca de Cairns o de Sidney? Leí que en Magnetic Island puedes ver koalas libremente.
Alguna sugerencia que me puedan dar? Desde ya, se los agradeceré muchísimo!!
Nosotros alquilamos un todoterreno y fumos hasta Cooktown por la Bloomfield track para regresar a Cairns por la carretera interior. Fueron dos días, uno para ir hasta Cooktown y otro para regresar. Nos hubiera gustado pasar un día mas en Cooktown ya que es una ciudad muy tranquila, fuera de las rutas turisticas y en mitad de la "selva". A lo largo del camino de ida atraviesas toda la selva y el paisaje es espectacular. Pudimos ver canguros libres en el bosque.
La vuelta la hicimos por el interior para ver el outback. Los paisajes también increibles.

Coincido con margi en que cairns salvo la barrera no nos aporto mucho. El rainforest de daintree no es tampoco espectacular y hay a parte muchos hoteles, campings en definitiva demasiado preparado. Subimos con todoterreno desde cairns hasta cooktown pasando por la bloomfield track y cape tribulation y si bien es cierto que el paisaje esta chulo, tampoco es la selva primigenia que te venden en las oficinas de turismo australianas (venden muy bien su producto) jeje

Estuve 2 noches por 38 euros (pagada desde España a través de booking). Los alojamientos son tiendas de campaña en medio de la selva, impermeables anchas y altas (y con electricidad) subidas a una plataforma de madera a 1 metro sobre el suelo. Las tiendas de campañas pueden ser compartidas o para una única pareja, hay de todo. Los baños y duchas están en frente de las tiendas de campaña y son compartidas pero no suele hacerse cola. Dispone de servicio de lavandería (de pago) bar y servicio de restaurante (solo desayunos y cenas). La cocina la puedes utilizar tu mismo para cocinar y en la zona común hay libros y juegos para jugar en familia. Todas las zonas están al aire libre pero tapadas por toldos. Lo mejor de todo el trekking que tienen en la selva que es bastante largo y se pueden ver muchos animales. Lo elegiría de nuevo sin duda.
un hotel dentro de la selva, con cabañas de madera, es un lugar muy especial y con mucho encanto, tiene una salida a la playa desde el restaurante, pero ya nos avisaron que no nos acercáramos al agua, pues el día anterior había algún que otro cocodrilo merodeando por la zona.
El hotel está totalmente integrado en la selva, tiene un restaurante al aire libre bastante bien de precio, donde por la noche hacen una hoguera como centro de reunión, lastima estar tan poco tiempo, pues el lugar vale mucho la pena, no es que hayan muchas cosas que hacer pero se respira muchísimo relax.

Lync-Haven Rainforest Retreat, que se encuentra unos 5 km al norte de Cow Bay, más al sur de Cape Tribulation. Así tendríamos algo de camino ganado para el día siguiente.
Aunque no teníamos reserva previa, conseguimos una parcela con electricidad por 32 AUD (unos 22 euros al cambio). Este alojamiento además de camping es una especie de reserva donde había wallabies, canguros, loros

Respecto a las medusas... Lamentablemente la temporada comienza en Noviembre que es cuando voy.. Así que a ver que tal.. Porque tb pensábamos ir a alguna isla...
Fue una decisión muy personal, hay quien prefiere visitar las playas de Port Douglas, etc. Nosotros fuimos directamente a cruzar la línea ( el río Daintree) como dicen los aussies y nos saltamos la zona de Cairns y Port Douglas, únicamente visitamos Kuranda el día de vuelta a Cairns y fuimos con coche ( no cogimos el cable ni el tren) para hacer compras en el mercadillo. La Forest Station paramos a visitarla y salimos de allí corriendo, parecía que estábamos en Tokio!!! Aunque hay que decir que si no tenéis en este punto la foto con el koala os cuesta lo mismo que en Lone Pine, 16AUD.
Los tres días los repartimos de la siguiente forma:
-Cairns-Cape Tribulation, llegada y alojamiento, visita y paseo por la playa.
-Cape Tribulation, salida a la Gran Barrera con Ocean Safari desde Cape y a la tarde excursión para ver los cocodrilos.
-Cape Tribulation-Subida al Monte Sorrow.
-Cape-Atherton Tablelands.

Aquí no hay grandes lujos, el baño que da a la selva es toda una experiencia y si sois afortunados la propiedad suele ser visitada regularmente por cassowaries.

No queda claro si el nombre de la playa Cow beach viene de la ganadería de los primeros asentamientos o se relaciona con las sea cows, los
