Text: Con casi 26.318 metros cuadrados, es la tercera mezquita más grande del mundo. Es la mezquita más antigua de Egipto que ha llegado a nuestros días con su forma totalmente originaria. Su minarete es el único de El Cairo con una escalera externa en espiral y la estructura global es única en Egipto.
At approximately 26.318 square meters in size, is the third largest mosque in the world. It is the oldest mosque in Egypt that has survived in a fairly original form. Its minaret is Cairo's only minaret with a spiraling external staircase and the overall structure is unique in Egypt.

Text: El santuario está espléndidamente decorado con un friso alto de mármol y un nicho de oración de mármol polícromo con una fila de hornacinas incrustadas separadas por pequeñas columnas de vidrio azul.
The sanctuary is lavishly decorated with a high marble dado and a polychrome marble prayer niche with a row of inlaid niches separated by blue glass colonnettes.

Text: La sala de oración fue restaurada durante el s. XIX con azulejos turcos en el muro de la qibla. Un techo de madera dorada pintado, ventanas de estuco enrejado y bellas puertas interiores con madera y marfil añadidas a las columnas con capiteles preislámicos contribuyen a la riqueza de la decoración.
The prayer hall was restored during the 19th century with Turkish tiles inset into the qibla wall. A painted and gilded wooden ceiling, stucco grilled windows and beautiful doors inlaid with wood and ivory in addition to the marble columns with their pre-Islamic capitals, contribute to the richness of the decoration.

Text: El plan hipóstilo de la mezquita congregacional es similar al del khanqah (monasterio sufí) de Faraj Ibn Barquq. Es un ejemplo tardío en El Cairo de patio abierto a gran escala y el último de este tipo de mezquita hipóstila construida en El Cairo. Hay una fuente de ablución en medio del patio.
The hypostyle plan of the congregational mosque is similar to that of the khanqah (Sufi shrine) of Faraj Ibn Barquq. This is a late example in Cairo of the open courtyard plan on a large scale, and the last such hypostyle mosque to be built in Cairo. There is an ablution fountain in the middle of the courtyard.

Text: Originariamente la mezquita tenía 3 minaretes pero el tercero, diferente a los dos minaretes gemelos que han sobrevivido, fue destruido durante el s. XIX. Los otros dos son especialmente finos y elegantes con sus agujas esculpidas en zigzag.
Originally, the mosque had three minarets, but the third one, different in appearance to the remaining twin minarets, was destroyed during the 19th century. The two remaining ones are particularly slender and elegant with their zigzag carved shafts.

Text: El complejo del Sultán Al Muayyad (1415-1442) está situado cerca de Bab Zuwaila y albergaba originariamente una madrasa-kanqah, una mezquita del viernes y dos mausoleos. Debido a su emplazamiento, la mezquita, o al menos sus minaretes, se convirtieron en un monumento emblemático del Cairo.
The Sultan al-Muayyad complex (1415-1442) is situated next to Bab Zuwayla, and originally contained a madrasa-khanqah, a Friday mosque, and two mausoleums. Because of it's site, the mosque, or at least it's minarets, became a land mark of Cairo.

Text: El portal tipo muqarnas (bóveda de estalactitas) es de grandes proporciones. Tiene una gran bóveda en forma de concha con nueve hileras de estalactitas en forma de gotas. Una banda de piedra esculpida con incrustaciones de mármol y piedras de color rojo y turquesa enmarca la entrada.
The muqarnas (stalactites niche) portal is of grand proportions. It has a large conch vault whith nine tiers of dripping stalactites. A band of carved stone inlaid with marble and red and turquoise colored stones frames the doorway.

Text: El complejo del Sultán Qalaun fue construido a lo largo de la calle Sharia al-Muizz en 1284 por el Siltán Al Mansur Qalaun. Comprende una mezquita-madrasa, un mausoleo y un maristán (hospital de beneficiencia).
The complex of Sultan Qalaun was built along the Sharia el-Muizz (street) in 1284 by Sultan el-Mansur Qalaun. It comprises a mosque-medersa, a mausoleum and a mauristan (charity hospital).
