El encanto de Gunma reside en sus abundantes onsen o manantiales de cálidas aguas así como en su lujosa naturaleza.
Situada al noroeste de la llanura de Kanto, Gunma alberga varias maravillosas estaciones termales frecuentadas por turistas durante todo el año.
El onsen Kusatsu es famoso por su tradicional ritual "Yumomi" – que consiste en agitar el agua caliente de los baños con enormes palas de madera – así como por su rico "Yubatake" (gran estanque de agua caliente);
El onsen de Ikaho es conocido por sus senderos empedrados bordeados de alojamientos y tiendas de souvenirs que conviven en perfecta armonía.
El onsen Shima, ubicado en una tranquila zona montañosa, atrae sobre todo a los visitantes que desean relajarse completamente en una de estas estaciones termales. Las estaciones termales situadas en la zona de Minakami ofrecen tanto gran calidad en los baños como actividades al aire libre.

Important Notice:
Mount Shirane erupted on January 23, 2018 around Kagamiike Pond near the Hon-Shirane summit. The volcano's alert level was raised to level 3. In case of possible further eruptions, there is a danger of falling rocks within a 2-kilometer radius of the Kagamiike Pond, which includes the higher areas of the Kusatsu Ski Resort. The town center of Kusatsu is located six kilometers away and not considered in danger.

Estuvimos en el kusatsu Sakurai. Una pasada, pero desde luego de barato no tiene nada, y en cierto modo tenía algo de parque temático, con supermercado, pachinko, una especie de resort, pero insistonlas habitaciones, la cena, los baños una pasada.
Bueno, eso de que al no haber ducha se sustituye por un baño termal... El concepto es distinto. Otra cosa es que antes de acceder a los baños termales tienes duchas que puedes y debes utilizar
Sobre el Daytrip desde Tokyo a Kusatsu Onsen ,lo he vuelto a mirar solo la ida son 4 horas y si no te quedas allí a dormir digamos que es una paliza ida y vuelta en un día ¿alguna alternativa?

El agua que brota en el Onsen de Kusatsu es extremadamente caliente, yendo desde los 51 a los 95 grados centígrados, siendo demasiado caliente para bañarse.
Sin embargo, la adición de agua fría a ella para reducir la temperatura debilita los beneficios naturales de las aguas termales. Es por esto que con el fin de disminuir la temperatura del agua de forma natural, se lleva a cabo una práctica llamada "Yumomi", que consiste en agitar el agua con grandes tablas de madera hasta que la temperatura disminuya a un cierto punto.

Y como, en casi, todos los sitios termales hay el típico baño de pies
Yukemuri-tei al lado de Yubatake (reproducción de un baño público de la era Edo (1603-1868) conocido como Matsunoyu) abierto las 24 horas del día
Se recomienda llevar toallita
Y la cocina típica!
