Maravillosamente situado a orillas del lago Leman, en las afueras de Montreux, es una imponente fortaleza defensiva desde la Edad del Bronce. El castillo de Chillon fue ocupado sucesivamente por el Imperio Romano, la Casa de Saboya y también por el Cantón suizo de Berna. La zona más antigua de la construcción actual es de estilo gótico (siglo XIII). Sus aposentos y salas inspiraron obras del poeta inglés Lord Byron.
