	Santa Sofía-Estambul-Turquía Hagia Sophia-Istanbul-Turkey   Author: Marta Leonor Vidal   Text: La Iglesia de la Sabiduría Sagrada. La Iglesia Suprema de Bizancio tiene más de 1400 años. Inaugurada por el emperador Justiniano en el 537. Fue convertida en una mezquita por los Otomanos en el s. XV.   The “church of holy wisdom”. The supreme church of Byzantium is over 1,400 years old. Inaugurated by Emperor Justinian in 537. It was converted into a mosque by the Ottomans in the 15th.

El puente de Gálata, que une Asia y Europa, es un buen lugar para apreciar la ciudad y admirar el horizonte lleno de minaretes.   Golden horn is a flooded river valley that flows southwest into the Bosphorus. The Galata Bridge, which links Europe and Asia, is a good place to appreciate the city and admirate the minaret-filled sky-line.

Destacadas formaciones rocosas en forma cónica, llamadas “chimeneas de las hadas” constituyen los rasgos más famosos y característicos. Existen numerosas capillas excavadas en la roca, adornadas con exquisitos frescos muestra de la presencia cristiana en el s. IV.   In Central Anatolia.Remarkable conical rock out-crops, called “fairy chimneys” are the region’s most famous and characteristic features. Carved into the rock are scores of hidden chapels adorned with exquisite frescoes, proff of the Christian presence in the 4th century AD.
	Efeso-Turquía Ephesus-Turkey   Author: Marta Leonor Vidal   Text: Una de las más fabulosas ruinas de ciudades del mundo occidental. Primero se construyó una ciudad griega alrededor del 1000 a.d.C. como centro de culto a Cibeles, la Diosa Madre de Anatolia. La ciudad que conocemos se fundó en el s. IV a.d.C por el sucesor de Alejandro Magno, Linasico. Bajo dominio romano se convirtió en el puerto principal del Egeo.   It is one of the greatest ruined cities in the western world. A Greek city was first built about 1000 BC as a centre for the worshi p of Cybeles, the Anatolian Mother Goddes. The city we know was founded in the 4th century BC by Alexander the Great’ succesor, Lynasichus. Under the Romans it became the chief port in the Aegean.
	Troya-Turquía Troy-Turkey   Author: Marta Leonor Vidal   Text: Llamada Truva en turco, tiene nueve estratos. La ciudad que fue el eje de la “Ilíada” de Homero fue descubierta por Heinrich Schliemann. El lugar conocido como “La Casa de los Pilares” podría haber sido el palacio del rey Príamo.   Called Truva, in Turkish,it has nine strata. The city which was the pivot of Homer’s “Illiad” was found by Heinrich Schliemann. The site called the Pillar House may have been the palace of King Priam.
	Afrodisias-Turquía Aphrodisias-Turkey   Author: Marta Leonor Vidal   Text: La ciudad recibió este nombre en el S. II a.d.C. Se dedicó a Afrodita, la diosa del amor.   The city was given this name during the 2nd century BC. It was dedicated to Aphrodite, goddes of love.
	Pabellón de Bagdad-Palacio Topkapi-Estambul-Turquía Baghdad Pavilion-Topkapi Palace-Istanbul-Turkey   Author: Marta Leonor Vidal   Text: Construido en 1639 por Murat IV para celebrar la toma de Bagdad. Tiene un exquisito azulejeado azul y blanco.   Built in 1639 for Murat IV to celebrate his capture of Baghdad. It has exquisite blue-and- white tilework.
