Shares in United Continental Holdings, which owns United Airlines, dropped by about 2% when markets opened in the US on Tuesday, the day after the incident.
Mr Munoz wrote that the passenger refused to voluntarily leave the plane, with staff "left with no choice but to call Chicago Aviation Security Officers to assist in removing the customer from the flight".
"The doctor needed to work at the hospital the next day, so he refused to volunteer," Mr Anspach added.
Can an airline really treat passengers like this? - by Simon Calder, travel correspondent for the Independent
Yes. The captain is in charge of the aircraft. And if he or she decides that someone needs to be offloaded, that command has to be obeyed. From the moment that the unfortunate individual in this case said, "I'm staying put", he became a disruptive passenger.
From that moment he was disobeying the captain's command. Officials were legally entitled to remove him, and as the videos show, he was dragged from the plane. It appears from the evidence that the law was broken - by him, not by the airline. But I would be surprised if United pressed charges.
So what went wrong here?
It appears to have been a series of errors. A group of flight crew needed to be in Louisville, properly rested, in order to operate the next morning's plane. Had they not been able to get there, then many more passengers would have had their plans messed up. The big mistake the airline made was allowing all the fare-paying passengers on board, and then trying to entice enough people off.
It would have been far better to conduct the auction at the gate; physically preventing someone boarding is less harmful than dragging them kicking and screaming from their seat.

Candidate Qualifications: You must be fluent in written and spoken English. We value volunteers who are creative and innovative, willing to take responsibility and easily adapt to new conditions and unexpected situations. Each IHF center is a product of its environment and follows the cultural code and norms of its host country. So must our staff. Our volunteers must have high intercultural sensitivity and be tolerant to different views and ways of life.
Voluntourists stay at least 2 weeks. We provide basic accommodation and food at our centers, where you will live with your co-workers. Unfortunately, as a nonprofit, we are unable to provide these amenities freely and we charge a minimal cost of $150 per week. Are you looking for a long-term volunteer management opportunity? IHF is looking for hard-working, dedicated volunteers to commit their time and talents for one year in one of our 4 education centers in Indonesia. Your role will be to manage the day-to-day maintenance of the center’s programs and initiatives alongside an international staff, in the effort to provide a better opportunity for children’s futures. You are asked to complete at least 4 hours a day of local work and 4 hours a day of international work, 6 days a week. The job can be strenuous, but is incredibly rewarding and you will leave IHF with new highly transferable skills, a better understanding of international NGOs, and an unforgettable experience that will last the rest of your life.

All co-Directors manage one or more of our international task teams, such as University Relations, Fundraising, Teacher Training or Media. You will work closely with co-Directors at other centers to manage these teams and will receive unique training in a multi-level, multifaceted system. You will be assigned your teams according to your experience and skills. This work can be challenging, but you will hone your time management skills and learn intimately how an NGO functions at both the ground and administrative levels. Before arrival at the center, you will already become a part of the team by completing pre-trip tasks with our international teams to gain an understanding of the kind of work you will be doing.

3-6 months: Assistant co-Director $50 per month
6-9 months: Co-Director... Leer más ...
Volunteer Nurse needed for Children’s Home in Kenya
This is an unpaid position.
The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) provides a home for children at its center in Nakuru, Kenya. This facility has around 65 children ranging from the age of 6 – 19 years. For your international tasks you will be assigned teams made up of volunteers from other centers, and you will work on administrative tasks not just for the Nakuru center, but for the whole organization. Your tasks may include producing media content, assisting with fundraising efforts and generating online outreach efforts to promote our organization’s goals and projects. We will particularize your tasks to suit your skill set, so that your expertise in health care benefits all IHF centers. Volunteers are needed to work as long as you want without paying a penny, in an orphanage in Pokhara (Nepal), called "Destitute Children's Home." This is to help children who live there without any help from the government.
There are volunteers to do Reiki, and Spanish lessons. There are also people lending a hand in infrastructure (painting, etc). Any idea is welcome. Is also underway at the hands of volunteers blog house, still unfinished (today, in May 2010), the link is as follows:
