”Dear Customer,
We inform you that the EES — the new European Entry/Exit System — is now operational. This system registers the entry and exit of non-EU nationals travelling to Europe for short stays (up to 90 days within a 180-day period).
Non-EU nationals are travellers who do not hold the nationality of a European Union country, nor the nationality of Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway or Switzerland.
The EES aims to make border checks more secure and efficient by replacing the manual passport stamp with an automated digital record.
At border control, registration with the following data will be mandatory:
Personal information from the travel document (full name, date of birth and nationality);
Biometric data, such as a facial image and/ or fingerprints.
This registration may be completed:
At self-service kiosks available at airports, before the border control area; or
With a border officer.
If you download the Travel to Europe application (App Store or Google Play), you will be able to pre-register your travel information before arriving at border control, making the entry process more efficient.
Through the application, travellers may:
Enter their personal and travel details in advance;
Complete a short questionnaire regarding the conditions for entry into European territory;
Carry out this process up to 72 hours before travel, thereby reducing time spent during in-person border checks.
After completing this process, a QR Code will be generated and subsequently validated at the self-service kiosks (when available upon arrival in Portugal) or by the officers at border control desks.
Although the use of the application is optional and does not replace standard border control procedures, it allows part of the required information to be processed in advance.
During the initial implementation period of the EES, border control processing times may be longer than usual.

We are sorry for any inconvenience in your travel plans and wish you a pleasant flight.
Thank you,
The TAP Air Portugal Team”
