Portuguese Fortress
Portuguese Castle is one of the remaining architectures left behind from the time of the Portuguese occupancy of the island in the 16th century to maintain control over the Strait of Hormoz, some locals believe the name for some Islands around Qeshm and Hormoz originated from Portuguese roots with the mean of “good economy Island”.

Hola a tod@s!
- Sian Kaan, Punta Allen

Hello everybody!
This is my first post, so I hope it reaches somebody!
2 people are travelling to Cancún during the 19th - 28th of September, and staying at Bahía Príncipe.
As I've been there before, i have contacted the driver I did all the tours with the last time (Carlos Salazar, he's been recommended in the forum for over a decade!). He did an amazing job and we had a lot of fun!
We are doing following tours:
- Chichen Itzá + Ek Balam
- Akumal, Tulum, Cobá (only my driver does this one)
- Sian Kaan, Punta Allen
- Isla Mujeres with snorkeling
Depending on the number of people, it is more or less expensive - the more people, the cheapest! (Max 14 people) as we would share the costs for both the transport and the guides.
We need to do the tours in english, as my partner does not speak Spanish and so we are looking for other travellers interested in doing these tours with us and having the things explained in english If you are living in our hotel and somewhere close in the area, even better!
If you have any questions regarding prices or anything, do not hesitate contacting me
Looking forward to meeting you all and having a lot of fun!

The Rwanda Development Board yesterday announced an increase in the price of gorilla permits from US$750 to US$1,500 for all visitors effective immediately.
A new exclusive package for tourists who wish to book an entire family of gorillas was also introduced at US$15,000, and will receive exclusive personalized tour guide services.
The price increase will not affect tourists who had already purchased their tickets at the time of this announcement.
Tourists who visit other national parks (Nyungwe and Akagera) for a minimum of three days, in addition to gorilla trekking, will receive a discount of 30%.
Similarly, conference tourists who stay pre- or post-conference dates to see gorillas will be eligible for a 15% discount.
In line with Rwanda’s high-end tourism strategy, the price increase aims to strengthen conservation efforts and contribute more to the development of communities living around the Volcanoes National Park.
Along with the new tariff, the tourism revenue sharing rate for communities adjacent to the park will also increase from 5% to 10%, which will quadruple the absolute revenues received by communities.
Over the last 12 years, more than 400 community projects have been completed including hospitals, schools, business development centers and water supply systems to facilitate access to clean water.
These projects directly benefit the people living around the parks.
Clare Akamanzi, the Chief Executive Officer at Rwanda Development Board said: “Gorilla trekking is a highly unique experience. We have raised the price of permits in order to ensure sustainability of conservation initiatives and enhance visitors’ experience. We also want to make sure that the communities living near the park area receive a bigger share of tourism revenues to fund development projects and empower them economically.”
New, high-end lodges are opening in Musanze and plans are underway to improve visitors’ experience at Kinigi, including renovation of the information center to equip it with modern offices and tourism services such as conservation education, children’s learning space as well as digital facilities.
Mountain gorillas are an endangered species with only around 880 remaining in the world. Of those in in the Virunga Massif, Rwanda accounts for 62% of the gorilla population.
Stringent conservation measures have significantly contributed to a rise in gorilla numbers.
There are currently 20 families habituated for tourism and research in Rwanda, up from just 9 families in 2010.

Shopping at a fake market is one of the most popular activities for foreigners who first land in China. However, many foreigners are clueless on the prices they should pay for fake items. I don’t necessarily condone purchases at fake markets, but I do condone shopping educated if you decide to go this route. Therefore, this blog post goes over documented lowest prices that I have personally seen or researched in Shanghai. It is a continuation of my previous post of A Guide to Fake Markets in Shanghai. Looking for fabric market prices? Check out my write up on the Shanghai Fabric Market.
As a note, this website is optimized for iPhone viewing. If you have a working iPhone in China, bookmark this post and pull it up as a reference guide when you are shopping in the fake markets to ensure you pay optimal prices.
Now on to the Shanghai fake market prices you should be paying …
Fake Clothes / Bags / Accessories
1) Sunglasses (e.g. Oakleys) – Initial offer: 100 – 300 RMB. You pay: 10 – 20 RMB. You can find a variety of quality in the sunglasses that you see. Some look to be decent quality, some not so decent. The best quality sunglasses (with “UV Protection”) may run you up to 30 RMB depending on the time of day and vendor, but it may be possible to go down as low as 20 RMB.
2) Jeans (e.g. Diesel) – Initial offer: 200 – 500 RMB. You pay: 50 – 140 RMB. Like the sunglasses above, the price of jeans will vary based on quality. The best quality fake jeans in Shanghai can be found at 580 Nanjing Rd, where the copies are nearly identical to the real versions. However, if you buy at Qipu Rd, you shouldn’t pay any more than 60 RMB for a pair of jeans. At Science & Technology Museum Metro you should be able to get a pair of jeans for roughly 80 RMB.
3) Small Scarf – Initial offer: 70 – 100 RMB. You pay: 10 RMB. Any small scarf should run you 10 RMB.
4) Large Cashmere Scarf – Initial offer: 100 – 200 RMB. You pay: 40 RMB. This is like the large LV scarf that you see at a variety of stands. You may be...

The government is ripping everyone off with the entrance to Petra - only a year ago it was JD21 to get in - now its JD50! No student discounts...Thats close to £50. I have travelled to 80+ countries and no where on earth does an attraction cost anywhere near this. So I'll share a tip with you to get in for less and share the good fortune with other travellers. The Jordanian government should be ashamed for setting the price so high - Petra is an incredible place but it should be accessible to all tourists, not just the well-moneyed ones.
Process: Buy a 2 or 3 day ticket - JD55 or JD60. Go and visit Petra for 1 or 2 days, then sell your ticket for JD25 to someone in your hostel. Valentines Hostel at the top of the hill in Wadi Musa is a very social place with lots of backpackers heading into Petra so won't be hard to sell it and they will be thankful for it! You don't need to give your name or passport number when you buy the ticket so if you are the one buying it from another traveller just walk confidently past the ticket booth and at the gate, turn to the gate house and have them scan your ticket and you are in.
