La isla de Pantelleria se encuentra en el canal de Sicilia, a 70 km de la costa tunecina (cabo Mustafà) ya 110 km de la costa siciliana (cabo Granitola).
Su área de 83 kilómetros cuadrados, lo que la convierte en la quinta isla italiana más grande. Su perímetro mide 51,5 km, su longitud máxima es de 13,7 km y su ancho máximo mide unos 8 km.
La isla de Pantelleria o Pantelaria, constituye la parte emergida de un volcán y por eso se compone de rocas de origen volcánica.
De la composición del suelo llega uno de los nombres de Pantelleria, llamada “Perla negra del Mediterráneo”; se conoce también como “La isla del viento” (o en arabe, «Bent el Riah», Hija del viento), porque los vientos aquí soplan durante todo el año.
La temperatura en los meses de invierno apenas baja de los seis grados, en verano el termómetro no pasa de los treinta y seis;

El dammuso es una edificación de planta cuadrada, con cúpula en el techo para recoger el agua de lluvia, construido a base de piedra lávica y recubierto de cal en muchas ocasiones, al que suele ir acoplado un jardín circular para proteger los árboles frutales del viento. Unas estructuras mimetizadas con el ambiente circundante que aíslan perfectamente del frío y del calor y que se han convertido en los últimos tiempos en la opción preferida por los turistas para alojarse durante su estancia en la isla.

Práctica tradicional del cultivo de la viña en vaso (“vite ad alberello”) de la comunidad de Pantelleria ha sido reconocido como patrimonio inmaterial de la humanidad en 2014
La uva Zibibbo es uva blanca de Sicilia, genéticamente la adaptación del Muscat d'Alessandria en la isla, presente desde hace siglos - llevada por los fenicios.
El nombre deriva del norteafricano "zibibb", "uva seca" y que seguramente se adoptó durante la dominación árabe. Inicialmente se cultivó en extensas áreas bajo viñedos para uva de mesa y la producción de pasas, pero hoy se emplea mayoritariamente en la producción de vinos dulces, especialmente en Pantelleria y otras zonas de Sicilia.
Passito di Pantelleria es una DOP (Denominación de Origen Protegida) para vinos moscatel provenientes de uvas secas que han crecido en viñedos del extremo sur de Italia, la Isla de Pantelleria
