Estoy intentando cuadrar las noches en Maiu para maximizar el tiempo que vamos a estar allí. Queremos ir un día ver el amanecer en Haleakala. El día anterior queremos hacer el Road to Hana. Que zona me recomendáis para dormir? Teniendo en cuenta el madrugón para subir al cráter nos gustaría dormir lo más cerca posible.

A finales de mayo de 2018 mi pareja y yo viajaremos a Maui. Queremos visitar el Parque Nacional Haleakala de la mejor forma en el menor tiempo posible (vamos con los días muy contados). Queremos dedicar menos de un día a visitarlo.
El caso es que no sabemos si coviene contratar una excursión de alguna agencia desde España, o si por el contrario reservar para ver el amanecer y movernos a nuestro aire por el parque. No queremos andar perdiendo el tiempo en dar vueltas sin sentido.
He valorado la opción de ir en coche, pero ¿realmente se reduce mucho el tiempo de visita si entramos con coche? Ya que viendo el mapa de la página del parque solo el área oeste permite circular con vehículo. ¿Es ahí donde se concentra lo más importante del parque, o conviene adentrarse en las rutas trail?
En fin, espero que alguien pueda ayudarnos, ya que no sabemos qué hacer.

No sé si he entendido bien la cuestión...y partiendo de la base de que un parque NO se ve en un día
Haleakala tiene dos partes claramente diferenciadas, con accesos también diferenciados
Si vas mal de tiempo tal vez lo lógico sea prescindir de la parte de la costa
Lo que te deja la parte del summit que es donde tendrás que reservar para ver la salida del sol...la carretera es espectacular y el paisaje vale la pena...

Creo que lo que haremos será dedicar un día a la zona volcánica, ver el amanecer y lo que podamos de ese área. He leído algo de que cuesta entrar al parque para ver el amanecer desde la cima. Nosotros nos hospedaremos en Kihei, ¿Es cuestión de salir a las 2 de la madrugada como he leído por ahí?
En cuanto al área de la costa, ¿conviene entrar después de hacer la ruta de Hana? (Tenemos solo dos días y medio para pasar en Maui)
Y ya que estoy, ¿los "lava tubes" conviene verlos también mientras se hace la ruta de Hana?

Personalmente me gusta mucho más la ruta desde hana por el sur de la isla , pero ojo! muchos rental cars no permiten circular por ahí, y si lo haces es at your own risk

We wonder if anyone going the 25th of May, Friday, would kindly take us with you as per our understanding what runs out is the parking slots, but not per person, so once there it's not a problem how many people by car.

@aire como te dice Wanderlust el lugar adecuado para escribir en inglés es el foro de inglés. La verdad es que tampoco entiendo la razón de no escribir el mensaje en español cuando seguramente ese será el idioma del 99% de la gente que se pase por este hilo... Y puede que algunos tengan dificultades para comprender el inglés y por tanto tu mensaje, lo que os dificultará la búsqueda de compañeros y que os confirmen si realmente el cupo funciona como pensáis.
Te animo a que escribas el mensaje en español, para que todos puedan comprenderlo, y si prefieres participar en inglés, entonces por favor hazlo en el foro correspondiente.
Por cierto, echando un vistazo a las plazas para el amanecer, las reservas se abren con 60 días de antelación y la reserva debe hacerse por teléfono, así que es normal que a estas alturas ya no quede nada para el 25 de mayo. En la propia web del parque también aclaran que dos días antes a las 4pm se abre un pequeño cupo de reservas online y especifican que hasta entonces esas plazas aparecerán como agotadas:

Estamos pensando ir mejor a ver el atardecer en Haleakala que el amanecer dado que hemos leído opiniones que al amanecer hay mucha mucha gente, te tienes que pegar un buen madrugón y puede que esté nublado y no sea muy bonito, además de que ahora hay que reservar con antelación, etc. Que os parece? Alguien que pueda contar su experiencia de ver el atardecer ahí arriba, gracias!!

En el momento en que yo fui no hacía falta la reserva (2015)
Nos fuimos desde lahaina (unas 50 millas) y amanece a eso de las 6
Había (mucha) gente, hacia un frío de mil demonios, presenciamos una petición de matrimonio y cantos típicos de bienvenida al sol...

Buenas noches. Para mi el amanecer en el Haleakala fue una de las mejores experiencias del viaje. Fuimos desde Kihei y salimos muy temprano, y la salida del sol la vimos desde el Visitor's center. Había gente pero tampoco tan masificado. Eso sí, después aprovechamos para bajar al cráter y fuimos solos! La gente marcha después de la salida del sol, y la bajada al cráter se la pierde y os recomiendo esta excursión mucho porque el paisaje es como si estuvierais en Marte!
