Yo en Taormina lo dejé muy cerca del alojamiento (Morfeo B&B) en una zona donde hay parking libre y gratuito. Mirando google maps está entre las calles Wilhelm Von Gloden y Cagli Corrado, a 10 minutos andando del centro histórico

El parking de Porta Catania te deja al inicio de la calle principal de Taormina y se tarda unos 20 minutos en llegar directamente (sin pararte mucho) hasta el final del todo dónde está el Teatro Griego (espectacular!). Nos costó 6€ por 3,15h. Dejo la foto que hice de los precios.
El parking de Lumbi no tenía operativo el funicular, desconozco si los buses funcionaban ni cómo de frecuente es el servicio.
