Good news, the Nakadake volcano is now at Level 1 – it’s safest level! There was damage to the ropeway in the eruption of Oct 2016 which still has to be repaired. However, from March 2018 you will be able to visit the crater’s edge and the road up to the crater and ropeway will both reopen. At present the closest you can get to the Nakadake Volcano is the ropeway station base, however you can view the crater by helicopter. The cost is 5,000 Yen pp.

Sólo quería actualizar la info sobre Mt. Aso. El ropeway que lleva a Nakadake está cerrado y desmantelado; han quitado hasta los cables. Efectivamente, lo reabrieron en marzo 2018...durante 3 días. En esos días se sintieron varios temblores así que tuvieron que clausurarlo definitivamente. Sólo se puede llegar a la zona de la estación de abajo.

La Oficina Nacional de Turismo de Japón nos ha enviado información sobre la puesta en servicio de un nuevo autobús que restablece las visitas al Monte Aso.
Hubo intentos de apertura tras la erupción de agosto de 2014 que duraron poco otiempo.
El 24 de Abril de este año, un nuevo autobús presta este servicio de visitas.
En la primera página de ese mismo hilo hay información de los autobuses con horarios y lugar de salida. _________________ La táctica es saber qué hacer cuando se puede hacer algo.

On 14:30 14th April 2019, the Japan Meteorological Agency has announced that they have raised the eruption level alert of Mt. Aso from level 1 to Level 2, restricting entry around the surroundings within 1km range.
Therefore, we have decided to postpone the operation of the Aso-san Loop Shuttle Bus.
We will post up information regarding schedule of re-opening the service as soon it gets clear.

Entra en erupción el monte Aso, el volcán activo más grande de Japón
La erupción ha tenido lugar en el cráter principal de Nakadake, y el flujo piroclástico ha alcanzado más de un kilómetro de distancia desde el punto de salida. El nivel de alerta se ha elevado a 3.
