IHF is looking for hard-working, dedicated volunteers to commit their time and talents for one year in one of our 6 children’s homes and education centers in Indonesia, Thailand and Kenya. Your role will be to manage the day-to-day maintenance of the center’s programs and initiatives alongside an international staff, in the effort to provide a better opportunity for children’s futures. You are asked to complete at least 4 hours a day of local work and 4 hours a day of international work, 6 days a week. In Indonesia, we have four education centers in Bali, Jakarta, Medan and Banda Aceh. Our Jakarta center provides a home to a small number of children. All Indonesia centers hold English, Math and Computer classes for disadvantaged children aged 6-17 to supplement the limited Indonesian public education system. Your role would include teaching and supervising classes as well as organizing various activities at the center.
We have children’s homes in Thailand and Kenya. Our Thailand center is a home for seven older children from a nearby hill tribe. Teenagers from this marginalized community come to our center for a stable home and the chance for an education. Our Kenya center is a home for children of various ages from the impoverished region of East Pokot and provides emergency relief to the surrounding community. This is the biggest IHF center, with approximately 65 children. Living conditions in this region are harsh, and we provide basic needs such as a home, food, and access to education for children who would otherwise go without. We also run livestock donation projects and other initiatives to relieve the extreme poverty where we can. Your role in either of these centers would include fostering a familial environment for the children, overseeing their education and managing the various needs and activities in the center.
IHF is a grassroots, all-volunteer organization with no central office, so co-Directors complete 4 hours of international work daily that consists of various administrative tasks. All co-Directors manage one or more of our international task teams such as University Relations, Fundraising, Teacher Training and Media. You will work closely with co-Directors at other centers to manage these teams and will receive unique training in a multilevel, multifaceted system. You will be assigned your teams according to your experience and skills. This work can be challenging, but you will hone your time management skills and learn intimately how an NGO functions at both the ground and administrative levels. Stipend: Volunteers must commit to serve at least one year at the center. Basic accommodation and food is provided by IHF. Volunteer Math Teacher Needed to Help Children in Kenya
The International Humanity Foundation (IHF) is seeking a volunteer Math Teacher for its Nakuru, Kenya children’s home as part of our Volunteer Work Study Program. As a Math Teacher Work Study Volunteer, you would complete four hours of local work and four hours of international work a day alongside an international staff dedicated to global development and helping children have access to more opportunities. You will have substantial responsibilities and be a valued part of a grassroots not-for-profit NGO at the ground level.
Our Kenya center is a children’s home and also provides emergency relief to the tribes in East Pokot. This is the biggest IHF center, with approximately 65 children of various ages. You will need to liaise closely with the schools and build lesson plans to complement the national curriculum. For your international tasks you will be assigned teams made up of volunteers from other centers, and you will work on administrative tasks not just for the Nakuru center, but for the whole organization. Your tasks may include producing media content, assisting with fundraising efforts and generating online outreach efforts to promote our organization’s goals and projects. We will particularize your tasks to suit your skill set, so that your expertise in education benefits all IHF centers. Pensión completa: El camino desciende pasando por el bosque de rododendros. Llegamos al hermoso pueblo de Ghandruk (1.940 m). Es un recorrido corto para descansar. Noche en albergue.
8° DÍA: GHANDRUK – POKHARA 930 m. aprox. 4 horas de trekking y en coche.
Media pensión completa: Se camina por la orilla del Modi Khola hasta Birethanti a través de aldeas pequeñas y arroyos, pasando por Birethanti hacia Nayapul (Nuevo Puente). Regresamos en coche a Pokhara desde Nayapul. Noche en hotel
9° DÍA: POKHARA – UNA EXCURSIÓN.
Desayuno: Mañana - Visita Barranco de Seti Gandaki, Puente de Mahendra, Templo de Bindyabasani y viejo mercado local, catarata Devis, lago Fewa. Tarde: paseo en el barco a la isla del templo de Barahi. Libre para descasar o un paseo por el barrio de Lake Side por su cuenta. Noche en el hotel.
10° DÍA: POKHARA – KATMANDÚ 7 horas en autobús.
Desayuno: 7 Horas en autobús a través de la carretera Prithvi. El recorrido mustra espectaculares vistas de los Himalayas, cordilleras verdes y también pasa por la orilla de los ríos Trisuli y Marshyangdi. Llegada a Katmandú.
11° DÍA: KATMANDÚ – UNA EXCURSIÓN.
Desayuno: Mañana: Bhadgaon para ver la Plaza Real de Bhaktapur con la Puerta de Oro, la Estatua del Rey Malla, El Palacio de las cincuenta y cinco ventanas, , la Plaza de Taleju Bhawani, la Gran Campana, la Pagoda de NYATAPOUL y el templo de Bhairav en la Plaza de Toumadhi, Mercado de cerámica, la Plaza de Datta-Traya con el templo de Pujari Math y la Ventana de pavo real y la Industria de Bhaktapur. Descanso para comer. Tarde: Stupa de Boudha en el barrio tibetano, Templo Charumati en Chabahil y el templo de Pashupati Nath en Devpattan a orillas del sagrado río Bagmati.
12° DÍA: SALIDA DEL NEPAL.
Desayuno: Desayuno en Hotel y libre. Despedida del hotel y traslado al aeropuerto internacional de Katmandú según hora provista de salida del vuelo. Salida de Katmandú, Nepal.

DÍA 01: LLEGADA A KATHMANDU.
Llegada al Aeropuerto Internacional de Katmandú, traslado y registro en el Hotel. Libre en Hotel para descansar o una vuelta por el barrio de Thamel por su cuenta.
DÍA 02: KATHMANDU – EXCURSION.
La Gran Stupa de Swayamvu, Ananda-Kuti Vihar y la Plaza Real de Kantipur, incluyendo Hanuman Dhoka, el Palacio Malla, La casa de la KUMARI---la divina virgen viviente; Plaza Real de Lalitpur, El Templo de Oro, El Templo de Mahaboudha, Aksheshwor Mahavihar, las Stupas de Ashoka, la Industria de Patan, el campamento de refugiados tibetanos y el Centro de Alfombras de lana.
DÍA 03: KATHMANDU – NAGARKOT.
visita BOUDHANATH: Stupa de Boudha en el barrio tibetano, Templo Charumati en Chabahil. PASHUPATINATH: el templo de Pashupati Nath en Devpattan a orillas del sagrado río Bagmati. Tarde visita plaza Durbar de BHAKTAPUR: Bhadgaon para ver la Plaza Real de Bhaktapur con la Puerta de Oro, la Estatua del Rey Malla, El Palacio de las cincuenta y cinco ventanas, , la Plaza de Taleju Bhawani, la Gran Campana, la Pagoda de NYATAPOUL y el templo de Bhairav en la Plaza de Toumadhi, Mercado de cerámica, la Plaza de Datta-Traya con el templo de Pujari Math y la Ventana de pavo real y la Industria de Bhaktapur. Conducimos a Nagarkot. Nagarkot está situado a unos 30 km al este de Kathmandu a una altitud de 2.175m. Tiene una buena panorámica de los picos del Himalayas, incluyendo el Everest.
DÍA 04: NAGARKOT – CHITWAN
Madrugamos por la mañana temprano para ver amanecer del sol y vista de los Himalayas. Hay una explanada desde la que podremos observar el Himalaya en casi toda su extensión, desde el Karyolung al este hasta el Himalchuli en el oeste. Salida después de desayuno. Trasladamos en coche a Chitwan. Llegada a real parque nacional de Chitwan y comida. Por la tarde visita al pueblo de los Tharus. Los Tharus son una etnia, son poblaciones de Chitwan. Después visita al centro de reproducción del elefante. Noche programa de cultural con la danza de los Tharus con los palos. Noche en Hotel en régimen alojamiento, desayuno, comida y cena.
DÍA 05: CHITWAN.
Pensión completa: Día entero en el Real Parque Nacional de Chitwan con diferentes actividades incluyendo safari en elefante, senderismo por la jungla, canoa, etc. Noche en Hotel.
DÍA 06: CHITWAN – POKHARA.
Desayuno: Nos despertamos por la mañana temprano y realizamos alguna actividad antes de desayunar. Desayuno y despedida del complejo. Traslado a la terminal de autobuses y conducimos cinco horas a Pokhara. Traslado al hotel de Pokhara. Noche en el Hotel.
DÍA 07: POKHARA – EXCURSION.
Desayuno: Despertamos por la mañana temprano y conducimos a Saragkot para la amanecer. Vuelta a Pokhara desde Sarangkot y desayuno. Excursión al valle de Pokhara. Mañana: Barranco de Seti Gandaki, Cueva de Mahendra, Templo de Bindabasani, el viejo mercado y el puente de Mahendra. Descanso para comer. Tarde: Catarata Devis, paseo en barca a la isla del Templo de Barahi en el lago Fewa, Centro de Artesanía de los refugiados tibetanos y Monasterio budista tibetano. Noche en el Hotel.
DÍA 08: POKHARA – BANDIPUR.

...tour de la manana incluye una visita a la Plaza Kathmandu Durbar - allí hay varios pagodas y templos Sikhara del estilo India, la Casa de Kumari (La diosa vivante), y mucho más.
Soyambhunath - Conocido como "el templo del mono", tiene vistas increíbles de la ciudad, stupas blancas, y muestra una síntesis única del Budísmo y Hindúismo.
Hanuman Dhoka -es un complejo de templos en el centro de la ciudad antigua. Construido durante la época Malla, hay varios monumentos y imagenes del dios Hanumana.
Por la tarde, el tour incluye una visita a la Plaza Patan Durbar -- con muchos templos y esculturas en piedra. El templo del dios Krishna y el Bano Real (Tushahity) con sus tallas en bronce es una obra maestra.
Bouddhanath Stupa -es una de las stupas mas grandes de la Asia, y es muy importante para el "Budísmo de Tibet" en Nepal. Con una altura de 36 metros, se conoce como el "Tibet Menor" de Nepal.
Pashupatinath Temple -En el ano 879, hubo en este sitio un templo dedicado a Shiva, y es un destino importante para los pelegrinos Hindúes. Adentro del complejo hay imagenes de Shiva, estatuas, templos, y santuarios dedicados a otros dioses.

Día 17: Kathmandu (con visita de Bhadgaon)
Por la mañana, realizar un tour de Bhaktapur..
Bhaktapur (Bhadgaon)- Es un ejemplo de arquitectura medieval, fundado en el siglo IX. Visita de la "Puerta Dorada" en el Palacio de las 55 ventanas, el Templo Nyatapole- el mas alto del país, y el mejor ejemplo del estilo "pagoda," el Templo Dattatreya, y Pujari Math, con sus ventanas unicas talladas en madera.
Tarde libre para visitar solos la ciudad. Es una ciudad mucho mas íntima que las ciudades del mundo occidental, y hay una cantidad impresionante de mercados, santuarios, y templos interesantes. Vale la pena de visitar el mercado fascinante, el "Asan Tole Bazaar."
Alojamiento en el hotel.
Día 18: Kathmandú – Salida
Por la mañana traslado al aeropuerto Internacional de Kathmandu para bordar su vuelo Internacional de Regreso.
Vaya por delante que coincido totalmente con Santi 54 que mas que un listado de Top 10, el listado es de sitios que hemos estado, en mi caso el listado es del norte dado que en el sur no he pasado demasiado tiempo. Del norte no conozco Sikkim ni ningun de los cuatro con algunos problemas de violencia interna, Jammu y Cachemira, Estados del Nordeste, Jharkand y Chattisgarh, y de los otros obviamente me quedan muchisimos sitios por conocer, de los cuales la selección no es tanto de lugares como tipo de sitios que me han gustado o zonas geograficas.
1-CALCUTA, ademas de sus monumentos que me parecen interesantes, hay muchisima vida en la misma y a pesar de todas las dificultades que ha pasado esta ciudad por la masiva llegada de migraciones desde la independencia, es una ciudad muy segura y con gente que a pesar de sus condiciones de vida tiene uno enorme deseo de vivir y disfrutar de la vida, del centro menos caotico que el de Delhi o Mumbai el salir es tan sencillo como pillar un tren de cercanias al barrio de Belur por ejemplo y parece uno estar en otra India paseando hacia Belur Math o subiendo por el Hoogley en barcaza
2- EL GANGES, bien sea Varanasi, Hariward o Risikesh. Cada uno tendra sus preferencias al respecto y la vida del rio se vive diferente en cada una de ellas.
Varanasi, mi preferida de las 3 con una vida increible en los ghats, en especial me gusta el ambiente desde el Scindia hasta el Raj Ghat mucho mas tranquilo que el resto, el perderse literalmente por el Chow es otro de esos placeres que te depara la ciudad.
Hariward, posiblemente la que menos extranjeros recibe, el ambiente durante el aarti ganga mucho mas agradable que en las otras dos, el Chow tambien interesante, el descansar en uno de sus varios ashram otro de los placeres que te depara la ciudad.
Risikesh, la mas occidental de las tres con casi todos los locales adaptados a nuestras necesidades y gente habituada a tratar con extranjeros, para bien o para mal, la zona de Laksman Jhula con gente de todo tipo y la de Swarg Ashram con gente de estancias de larga duracion y un ambiente de occidentales adoptando la cultura india incluso en la vestimenta, bastante neo hippie new age y algun que otro “iluminado”. El paisaje precioso y el ganges aunque el agua baja helada se puede uno bañar.
3-KONARK Y MANDU, en ambos casos son pueblos de una India muy tranquila en especial Mandu, con muchos turistas indios, aldeas en los alrededores y la posibilidad de alquilar bicicletas para recorrer los mismos, ademas en ellos se encuentran alguno de los mejores monumentos de India. Estarian incluidos en los puntos 4 y 5 tambien.
Konark, tengo debilidad por este lugar, muchisima afluencia de turistas indios, con el templo del Sol como referencia, el monumento es increible. A menos de 2 km una playa enorme donde solo coincides con algun que otro pescador, la carretera hacia Puri transcurre en parte paralela a la playa y al otro lado un parque nacional, hay aldeas de pescadores con gente encantadora, es un sitio muy tranquilo.
Mandu, esta ciudad abandonada tiene unos monumentos unicos desperdigados en un fuerte elevado sobre una llanura, con pequeños lagos en su interior, es todavía mas tranquilo y menos turistico que Konark, con bastantes aldeas dentro del fuerte y fuera del mismo, la gente encantadora, al segundo/tercer dia ya pareces forma parte de la vida del pueblo, en lo negativo al igual que Konark muy pocos servicios, aquí casi ninguno, por...
