Recientemente he estado por Botswana haciendo la ruta Río Perdido con Kananga.
En lo que se refiere al delta del Okavango, pasamos 3 noches en diferentes alojamientos.
El primer día, saliendo desde Maun fuimos hasta el campamento Guma Lagoon, en la parte occidental del delta. Nos llevó toda la mañana y la carretera es bastante horrible a trozos.
La agencia Kananga tiene allí establecida una zona, donde están montadas las tiendas permanentemente y cuenta también con baños.
La actividad que hicimos allí fue un paseo en barca por la tarde para la observación de pájaros, aunque algún cocodrilo se vio también. Pájaros como el martín pescador, el turaco unicolor o el vinago africano. Para acabar, una fantástica puesta de sol.
Por la mañana temprano dimos un paseo corto por el recinto cerrado del campamento, viendo fundamentalmente varios termiteros, acacias y algún baobab.
Posteriormente, comenzamos un paseo en barca con motor para recorrer los canales del delta, paisajísticamente muy interesante, incluso cuando en los canales más estrechos había que tener cuidado con los golpes de los tallos de papiros. De animales se vieron un par de cocodrilos, un varano y algunos pájaros, aunque no fue posible observarlos por el ruido del motor, que hacía que echasen a volar. Sólo se dejó fotografiar un águila pescadora africana o pigargo vocinglero. El paseo acabó en la isla Seronga, que atravesamos en camioneta para empezar el recorrido con el mokoro.
Ese día nos alojamos en un campamento móvil básico establecido en una isla, con las tiendas de campaña y un baño seco.
Ese día hicimos por la tarde el paseo en mokoro para ver los hipopótamos, interesante y a la vez preocupante por estar observando estos animales a una distancia relativamente cerca.
La caminata que hicimos al día siguiente en otra isla duró en torno a una hora y media. Vimos algunos elefantes y pasamos por la zona donde dormían los hipopótamos.
Después de este paseo, volvimos a deshacer el camino hasta la isla de Seronga y coger de nuevo una barca para ir hasta nuestro siguiente alojamiento, una casa barco a unos 10 minutos de Seronga. Ya por la tarde salimos unos minutos para ver otra puesta de sol.
Por la mañana, como ya he descrito en otro tema, hicimos un vuelo en helicóptero para trasladarnos hasta el área de Xakanaxa en Moremi. Éste era uno de los sueños que tenía desde hacía años y desde luego que es impresionante. Las fotos que se puedan hacer (salvo que tenga uno suerte con que no de el sol de frente, o no se vea reflejado todo en las ventanas) no quedan a la altura de lo que se ve.
En definitiva, el delta me ha parecido muy interesante paisajísticamente y por el hecho de verlo desde el mokoro, la barca a motor o el helicóptero. En cuestión de animales, durante los paseos acuáticos no parece que se vean muchos animales. Quizás dependa también de la zona del delta en la que esté uno.
Como parte del viaje que hice con Kananga en Botswana, vi diferentes partes del parque nacional de Chobe.
Por un lado, desde Kasane hice 2 paseos por el río Chobe, uno en barca pequeña para ver el atardecer y otro en barco de dos plantas por la mañana para desayunar. Ambos organizados por Water Lily Lodge.
También hice un paseo en 4x4 por la mañana por la zona de Chobe Riverfront, organizado también por el mismo alojamiento. Vimos animales como kudus, impalas, jirafas, búfalos, antílope sable, hipopótamos, carraca lila, turaco gris, pigargo vocinglero (águila pescadora), elefantes, facoceros y una leona con sus crías.
Por otra parte, entre la zona de Khwai en Moremi y el regreso a Kasane, visitamos el área de Savuti. Entramos por la puerta de Mababe y recorrimos la depresión del mismo nombre. Me sorprendió la sequedad del lugar así como la escasa vegetación en parte del recorrido, y no menos las pistas de arena por las que hay que circular. No es donde más animales vimos, pero al principio de empezar a atravesar esta depresión sí que se dejaron ver jirafas, elefantes, ñus, cebras y kudus. Luego nada durante varias horas.
En Savuti hicimos un corto game drive al atardecer y otro por la mañana temprano. En el game drive de la tarde vimos animales como el águila volatinera, búfalos, la avutarda kori, impalas, ñus y sobre todo licaones, que fue en lo que estuvo más centrado este paseo. A última hora de la tarde, ya casi de noche, vimos un leopardo sobre unas rocas.
Por la noche en el campamento tuvimos la visita inesperada de algún tejón de miel y escuchamos los rugidos de un león y la captura de una presa. A la mañana siguiente vimos precisamente un león macho adulto (entre 12 y 15 años) que había devorado una presa. Un rato más tarde vimos también una leona con varias crías.
Tras ver estos leones salimos de Savuti por la puerta norte Ghoha en dirección a Kachikau, donde tomamos una carretera ya asfaltada para regresar a Kasane. Este tramo de Ghoha a Kachikau lo hicimos de un tirón, sin parar, pero si me dio tiempo a observar la gran cantidad de baobabs que había y las pistas de arena.
Personalmente los game drives en Savuti se me quedaron un poco cartos y se invirtió más tiempo en los traslados entre Khwai y Savuti y entre Savuti y Kachikau, aunque lo cierto es que se tarda bastante.
Pues me has puesto los dientes largos. Hasta ahora, nada ha superado a mi último viaje a Namibia, pero Zambia fue alucinante. Sé dónde voy. Cuando la gente me pide consejo para ver animales a tope, siempre les recomiendo Tanzania (ahora casi menos Kenya) para un primer viaje de safari. En todo caso, para mi, cada león, cada elefante, es como el primero. Ya te digo. Tengo un "mono" de África impresionante. Además, mi hijo Oriol estuvo hace poco en un voluntariado en Tanzania, en la rivera del lago Victoria, y pudo volver al Serengeti. Hizo unas fotos impresionantes. Ya estoy contando los días que faltan uno a uno....
Por cierto, una de las dudas que tengo es qué objetivo llevar para los chimpancés y para los gorilas. Tengo una Olympus OM 1 y estoy pensando que el 12-100 mm (equivale a un 24-200 mm) me iría de maravilla. Pero la duda es que si hay aves, se me quedará corto. La otra opción es el 100-400 mm (equivale a un 200-800 mm), pero para los gorilas, tendría que irme muy lejos para pillarlos enteros !! ja, ja, ja. Llevarme los dos, se me antoja demasiado peso...¿Qué te parece?
Bueno, no me gusta crear grandes expectativas porque luego vienen las decepciones pero yo creo que lo vas a disfrutar a tope.
Lo cierto es que nosotros tuvimos mucha suerte y vimos prácticamente todo lo que queríamos ver. Al estar tres noches en cada parque, ya sabíamos por dónde andaban los leones y los leopardos. Atento a los árbol candelabro (Euphorbia candelabrum), una especie de cactus a los que se suben mucho los leopardos.
En cuanto a los objetivos, yo ya me he hecho muy cómodo y sólo llevo una compacta con un zoom óptico potente. Ya sé que no es lo mismo pero como recuerdo me vale
Los gorilas y los chimpancés ( al menos en mi experiencia en Kyambura ) los vas a tener al lado. Dicen que en Kyambura se les suele ver incluso más cerca que en Kibale pero ya sabes que cada experiencia es distinta...
Si eres pajarero también vas a disfrutar bastante. El Gran Turaco Azul es tan abundante como difícil de fotografíar ya que es tímido y tiene la extraña habilidad de ponerse siempre a contraluz . Grullas coronadas, Turaco de Ross, Calao blanquinegro, etc, etc se pueden ver sin problema aunque ahí sí necesitarás más objetivo aunque con suerte, el 12/100 podría valerte.
El picozapato también es espectacular y llevaba muchos años detrás de él. En Mabamba se ve a placer ( mi experiencia allí fue esa).

Ya queda un día menos para el viaje . Por muchos que hagas, el próximo siempre parece el primero
éste fue el itinerario que seguí durante mi viaje a Namibia. Aunque fue un circuito organizado, quizás a alguien le pueda servir de referencia.
Día 1: Windhoek - Intu Africa Game Reserve
Varias paradas durante el camino, en el punto del Trópico de Capricornio, en otro sitio para ver los nidos de los pájaros tejedores (weavers), las dunas rojizas del desierto del Kalahari.
En el alojamiento dentro de la reserva hicimos un safari de 2 horas en el que vimos animales como orix, gacelas, avestruces, jirafas e incluso una leona. Creo que el precio era de $500.
Día 2: Intu Africa Game Reserve - Canyon Village
Día largo de carretera para llegar hasta las proximidades del Fish River Canyon. La carretera es más o menos buena (asfaltada) hasta Ketmanshoop. A partir de la presa Naute se convierte en una de esas carreteras típicas namibias de tierra y grava que más parece de un rally que de otra cosa . Y así más de 100 km
Durante este día visitamos el bosque de árboles carcaj de Garas. Aparte de los propios árboles, tiene interés por el entorno rocoso en el que se encuentra. En algunas zonas lo han decorado con unas obras escultóricas hechas con materiales reutilizados. No queda mal el contraste.
Paramos en la presa Naute y en algún sitio más para ver cebras de montaña o fotografiar el paisaje árido de esta parte del país.
En el alojamiento se podían hacer caminatas para conocer el entorno.
Día 3: Fish River Canyon - Lüderitz
Nos acercamos hasta el Fish River Canyon, el segundo más grande del mundo (después del Gran Cañón del Colorado) y el primero de África. Se puede caminar entre dos miradores en un paseo que durará aproximadamente una media hora. La panorámica del cañón impresiona y hace una curva (salvando las distancias) a lo Horseshoe Bend. Una vez que se llega al segundo mirador sólo hay posibilidad de hacer una ruta que baje al cañón y es una que recorre una distancia de 90 km No hay posibilidad de hacer paseos de día más allá de ir de un mirador a otro.
Retrocediendo por la misma carretera del día anterior, paramos en la destilería Naute Kristall para tomar algo. Luego pusimos camino hacia Lüderitz, realizando varias paradas después de la población de Aus para ver los caballos salvajes.
Cerca de Lüderitz se aprecia como las dunas del desierto llegan hasta las proximidades de la ciudad.
Día 4: Lüderitz
Día tranquilo que comenzamos visitando el antiguo poblado minero, hoy abandonado, de Kolmanskop. Empezamos realizando una visita guiada de 45 minutos y luego estuvimos una hora más recorriendo a nuestro aire, pero podría haber sido mucho más, porque el sitio se presta a hacer una buena cantidad de fotos. Impresiona ver cómo la arena del desierto ha ido invadiendo poco a poco muchos de los edificios y casas. En el edificio que hace de centro de recepción de visitantes hay una sala con paneles informativo sobre las minas de diamantes en Namibia.
Luego nos dirigimos a Dias Point, donde hay erigida una réplica de una cruz que puso el navegante Bartolomeu Dias a su vuelta del cabo de Buena Esperanza. En unos islotes rocosos situados al frente se pueden ver focas y cormoranes. En la zona también hay un faro. En otra parte de la península de Lüderitz, vimos una colonia de flamencos en la playa de la Grosse Bucht (Gran Bahía).

Day 8: Game-drive, visit to the top of the falls In the early morning we head into the park for another chance to explore Murchison Falls NP with its giraffes, elephants and lions. After the morning game-drive we drive for a visit to the top of the magnificent Murchison Falls. Here an explosive dash of water at close range gushes through a narrow crevice before the Nile continues its journey towards the Mediterranean. We then continue on to the town Masindi for lunch at Uganda’s oldest hotel; Masindi hotel that is known for having hosted Hemingway and Humprey Bogart. Overnight Budongo Eco Lodge
Day 9: Transfer to the crater lakes area by Fort Portal After breakfast transfer towards the crater lakes area by Fort Portal. It’s a long drive with our target to have lunch in Fort portal as the distance was cut yesterday the pressure and fatigue is lessened. A punctuation of stopovers at sceneries like the Rift valley escarpment on Lake Albert - typical African village setup in the far countryside and tea plantations along the drive offer us chances of stretching. We check in late afternoon to an area with an amazing display of primates and lovely scenery. Overnight Isunga lodge
Day 10: Explore the crater lakes area and community walk in Kyambura
Crater exploration with a walk to Crater Lake, if you are lucky you might see different species of Monkeys, such as red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies. More in the forest canopy colored aviation creatures-butterflies various bird species like the native Great blue Turaco, joyful greenbul, olive long tailed cuckoo, the superb black bee eater. Then transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park, having lunch along the way. Option to drive further southwards with the Rwenzori ranges (Longest in Africa) in view or drive through the Crater lakes in the Hills through to sample out the surprising diversity of Savannah trees and wildlife! In the late afternoon after arriving at the lodge in Kyambura we stretch our legs with a community walk to the close by village and beautiful Crater Lake. Overnight in Pumba safari cottages
Day 11: Game drive and boat cruise in Queen Elizabeth National Park Start the day with a warm breakfast before enjoying the game drive. After lunch it is time for the Classic highlight of the 2hrs boat-cruise on the famous Kazinga channel, a 36kms channel linking Lake George to Lake Edward. On the banks you can see land and water Adapted Hippopotamuses Yawning and some slashing canines to each other, the National Geographical society Killing machine the Nile Crocodile gaping along the Banks and Savannah versions of Pigs the Warthog- Pumba of the award winning Lion King are a hallmark sign in this Animal home! It is a beautiful hike that takes you to see the falls close up as an explosive dash of water at close range gushes through a narrow crevice before the Nile continues its journey towards the Mediterranean. Your guide picks you at the top of the falls and you continue on to the town Masindi to spend the night at Uganda's oldest hotel. Masindi hotel is known for having hosted Hemingway and Humprey Bogart.

Besides the chimps 9 different species of Monkeys are found in this forest, for example red colobus, red tailed monkey and bush babies. In the forest canopy colored aviation creatures-butterflies and various bird species like the native Great blue Turaco, joyful greenbul, olive long tailed cuckoo and the superb black bee eater can be spotted. After your guide brings you back to the lodge to relax after a heavy lunch before embarking on a nature walk at Bigodi wetland which is suitable for birders.

Enhorabuena por ir avanzando con el tema, si que lo hacéis con antelación!
Echando un vistazo al planning comentar:
1- Dos días en Murchison a nosotros nos llegaron, hicimos las cascadas desde arriba y desde el ferry, y game drive por el Parque Nacional. Sin problema.
2- De Murchisnson a Fort Portal es un viaje muy largo, y más si vas por el Albertine Rift (como hicimos nosotros), y no bajando directamente desde desde Paraa a Masindi. No lo harás en 4.5 horas, más bien calcula 8 o 10. Nosotros de hecho hicimos noche en el camino, en Hoima. Y luego al día siguiente hicimos Hoima-Fort Portal-Kibale.
3- El día 18 de agosto te lo veo muy saturado, si vas de Semiliki a Kibale dudo que hagas 69 km en una hora. A no ser que esa carretera esté muy bien, pero lo dudo. Si tienes pensando hacer Semiliki-Fort Portal-Kibale, entonces ya te digo que sólo la parte Fort Portal-Kibale a nosotros nos llevo un par de horas, creo recordar. Pero es que luego además tienes viaje a QENP. ¿Entonces no pararás en Kibale a ver nada? Te recomiendo que pares y hagas el swamp walk de Bigodi (que técnicamente es fuera del parque de Kibale y no pagas entrada). Nosotros lo hicimos y vimos los turacos, y 6 especies de primates. Al lado de Kibale (una hora o menos) tienes la zona de los crater lakes, aqui casi te obligo a ir y quedarte en el Lake Nkuruba Community Campsite, que está en un entorno que alucinas.
4- El viaje Kibale-QENP tampoco lo harás en hora y media, tienes mal calibrados los tiempos jjejee. Solo hasta Kasese ya te lleva más de una hora, y de Kasese hasta QENP aún hay una tiradita (pero la carretera es buena).
5- Dos días en QENP llegan, obligatorio es el fery del Kazinga Channel, y muy recomendable ver aqui los chimpances, que es más barato que en Kibale, y nosotros los vimos sin problema. La zona es el Kyambura Gorge (pertenece al QENP), y reservas directamente al llegar en el Fig Tree Camp o en cualquier otra gate...En esta zona nos quedamos en el Queen Elizabeth Safari Camp, que estaba sin terminar en lo que a bandas se refiere, pero acampas sin problema y el dueño es hiperagradable. En QENP no te recomiendo game drives, asi de claro.
6- El 21 de agosto pones 216 km en 4 horas. Esto ni en un sueño, yo no hice esa ruta pero solo ir de la zona de Kazinga Channel y Kyambura (que estan una al lado de la otra) a Ishasha te llevará varias horas. Tampoco entré a Bwindi desde Ishasha y no sé donde verás los gorilas, pero nosotros para llegar a Rushaga pasamos por las peores carreteras de Uganda, para que te hagas una idea promediamos unos 15 km/h en cualquier carretera de aproximación a Bwindi...
7- Bwindi-Lago Bunyonyi no lo harás en hora y media, eso seguro. Nosotros desde Rushaga (que es el punto de Bwindi más cercano a Bunyonyi) tardamos más de 3 horas.
8- Por último, de Bunyonyi a Lake Mburo, cuenta con un día de viaje bien completo...6 horas no te las quita nadie. La carretera Kabale-Mbarara-Kampala, que es por la que irás, tiene tramos muy buenos (como una carretera española) donde promedias 80 km/h, tramos en obras donde promedias 40 km/h y tramos regulares. Quizás en unos años, cuando esté terminada, si se puedan echar cuentas como en España, pero por ahora, calcula como te decía mínimo 6 horas de viaje.
Cuando rehagas la ruta en función de lo que te digo, verás que no te sobran tantos días. Nosotros estuvimos más o menos los mismos días y no fuimos a Kidepo ni Semiliki, pero sí a Rwenzori...también... Leer más ...
