Alta es la mayor población en Finnmark (Laponia noruega) y ofrece al visitante auroras boreales, sol de medianoche, cultura Sami, renos y unos grabados rupestres protegidos por la UNESCO.

De hecho Alta, es conocida también como “La ciudad de la Aurora Boreal” (se construyó el primer observatorio de la aurora boreal del mundo a finales del siglo XIX) y puede observarse también el sol de medianoche...
Pero lo que más me ha interesado y desconocía son las pinturas rupestres de Hjemmeluft (las más numerosas del mundo), que datan del4200 a. C. Hasta el 500 a. C., catalogadas Patrimonio Cultural de la Humanidad.

Alta tiene tres centros:
Bossekop, con las tradiciones del viejo mercado,
Elvebakken al este, con el aeropuerto y el puerto,
